Sorry for the short update.

But I have to get this in before midnight. The blog is one year old today. March 13. So this is a blog birthday.
As for me. I'm doing fine. I'll update some more later.

Good thing, bad thing about the blog birthday. Sorry it had to get started, but glad that you have it as a release, and we have it as a pick up.

Hope you are feeling better.

Still think it could be a "Newberry" winner. Who can forget the "boob in a sling". "How do you fix a broken port with a bike pump", "the crazy wig lady" and "Ode to Mothers on Mother's Day" just to name a few. You have brought laughter, tears, and a little bit of understanding of what it is to be 28 and have cancer. I am extremely proud of you....NOW GET WELL (and clean up your room).
LOVE YOU, MOM

It's good to have something to celebrate, even though it's only a 'blog' birthday. Happy to see some words on your blog. Haven't checked in for a while. Hope each day is better for you than the last.

P.S. When you get home, I'll be happy to help you clean your room!!! love, Brit

This blog definately has award-winner written all over it. I think it should all be turned into a book - comments included of course - and published for the rest of the world to read and enjoy. Bonus - it will sell a lot of copies and make lots of money. Plus, I'm sure Jon Stewart would put in a good word...
Hang in there Liz - you're a trooper.
Love & Hugs

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU , HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR BLOG - HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.( TO BE SUNG TO THE TUNE- "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU").
SO WATCH OUT LIZ, KEEP THAT RECOVERY HELD BACK A BIT, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO FAKE IT. FIRST IT'S THE OLD "CLEAN YOUR ROOM ", AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW IT'S," ELIZABETH, CAN YOU JUST FILL 3,500 EASTER EGGS WITH CANDY AND HIDE THEM IN THE HILLS OF MAHOPAC", OR "ELIZABETH, TIMES UP , IT'S WELL BEYOND YOUR TURN TO START SHOPPING AND COOKING GOURMET MEALS FOR THE FAMILY". I'M TELLING YOU IT'S THE NATURAL PROGRESSION OF THINGS TO COME. THEY'VE BEEN REALLY NICE TO YOU FOR A REALLY LONG TIME... DON'T YOU THINK THEY ARE TIRING?!
OK SERIOUSLY, YOU ARE SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE SUCH A WONDERFUL TEAM AT YOUR BACK.. ISN'T IT REASSURING TO KNOW THEY ALWAYS WILL BE?
HOPE YOU ARE FEELING OK AND AM WONDERING WHEN THE "COME HOME" DATE IS LOOKING LIKE.

Hey Girl,

You sounded REALLY good today! Just wanted you to know that.

So I don't get it Elizabeth.

Pastor tells me that Mrs. Hinz called you at noon today and you "sounded fine."

Marta says she spoke to you earlier and you "sounded great."

Carol blogs that you sounded "really good" today.

Bill tells me you called last night to plan out the Easter Egg Hunt and seemed really "up".

But alas, when I visited you, you complained of a headache and seemed blah. I won't take this personally, but I am starting to wonder???? Maybe I give you too much sympathy :)

Hey Lizard Breath,

A few notes:
Mr Peterson (who is very proud that you know why only the ice on top of the lake freezes) sends his best.

Die ganze deutsche Schueler wuenschen Ramblings alles gute zum Geburtstag! At one year old, shouldn't it start talking by itself soon?

(Oh, and don't tell Adam, but I'm not sure his suggestion will fit on a greeting card...)

Happy Thursday!

Well if my parents were singing happy birthday to this blog - they'd be singing it over two phones (with cords by the way), and my dad would harmonize at the end! I'm sure you know it well spending your Wednesdays with them! Love ya girl - and continuously admiring your courage and strength (and of course, humor)! Love Jen K.

I agree that your blog has had many unforgettable episodes. It's always interesting about how we remember things months later, compared to how we are experiencing them at the time. So happy birthday to "Ramblings" and ramble on.

So again I feel the need to let everyone know that EJ is OK.

Slowly, and I do mean slowly, her blood counts have started to rise. For about 5 days after she got back her stem cells, her white blood cell count registered <.1 You know that's the sign that(<) means lower than. Another words the read out didn't go down that far. Than on day 0+6 or so, it finally registered .1 and again held for two days. This morning her white blood cell count came back .2 so that is progress. They will not discharge her until she reaches a minimum of 2.0 A healthy persons WBC should be between 8.00 and 10.00 (I think), but they will let her continue improving at home.

Most of the time she feels tired but otherwise well. Ocassional nose bleeds that send the staff scurying for platelets to give inraveneously, or correct the low on potassium reading. She gets daily shots of nuprigin (very painful but now administered by a nurse and not to herself) Now as her bone marrow starts functioning again, she is starting to feel the aches in her bones and joints that have plagued her before.

She does amazingly well being cooped up in the hospital room for so long....I'd go stir crazy. For those of you who do not live in NY, you should know that today we had a spring snow storm that dumped about 10 inches of snow in our driveway and continued through most of the day. So none of us went to visit EJ. Actually, she was kind of happy to have us all gone for awhile...but don't get too comfortable

Elizabeth...There's an army of us stopping in tomorrow.

OOPs, change of plans...Don't visit EJ without checking first. She is running a fever (unknown source of infection);terrible body aches and pains (from both fever and re-growth of stem cells);very nauseous and unable to look at food or liquid and also quite dizzy. Now do I sound hysterical?? I'm not. Her nurse Suzi (a transplant nurse) says that all of this is in the realm of not surprising. They are treating her with a broad spectrum of antibiotics and are trying to isolate the cause of the infection. Once they know that, they will zero in on a direct antibiotic. On the positive side, her WBC count is up to .5
Keep praying everyone.

Let me interject some upbeat news as we wait for Elizabeth's counts to go up, for folks to dig out their driveways (if you're a skier you can appeciate that Hal beat a path up to Vermont in front of the storm to be up there for 18 inches of fresh powder...left me on my own to chop up the icy crust and shovel, but what the heck) and be able to get back down to visit you. Today's St Patrick's Day. It was close to 30 years ago we were unknowingly becoming a part of the incredibly extended Bauerlein family. Dinner at La Bon Vie on Lake Mahopac, which has had a number of other names since, somewhat recently Flannigan's, though I think it's something else since then. Corned beef and cabbage dinner that night was the beginning of a friendship that has blessed my whole family in ways too numerable to mention. Everyone on this blog is a part of this extended family so you know, in your own experience, how special this is. Elizabeth, and all of the Bauerleins, thank you for sharing this journey toward wellness. You are all an inspiration and we keep you all in our prayers! I'm going to fetch a green beer and drink a toast to this anniversary! Much love, Mrs H

So Winnie, you have me in tears (not really hard to do). We just came home from seeing EJ and she really is hurting and depressed (and I bet scared). But today alone, she received no less than 12 get "support" cards (all funny). So many wonderful people leave us their comments on her blog; send us emails; call us...and we too marvel at how lucky we are to have such terrific love and support from everyone. Leaving her in the hospital tonight was really difficult (and I'm still not sure I'm not going to grab my jammies and go back), but I remember what she wrote in one of her first blogs. GOD HAS A PLAN.
But maybe we could all pray for the next phase to start.
Love to you all,
Elizabeth and her family
