Mom Given The Chance To Use My Blog (Elizabeth edits)

So it was Elizabeth suggestion that I blog officially to let you all know that she is hanging in there. Of course she warned me that I should jot down notes before I blog as I have a tendancy to ramble....But since the name of this blog is RAMBLINGS, I'll take my chances and live dangerously.

It is early Sunday evening and although Elizabeth still has a low grade fever, she is so much better than she was last evening. Still unable to smell food (or even discuss it), she is thirsty and drinking juice and gingerale by the cup full. Unable to focus on real reading, she did enjoy todays Sunday funnies and of course the latest batch of cards. Her joint pain is being controlled by a variety of "funny drugs" but they don't seem to do much for her mood.....still grouchy (wonder if she'll edit that?)

Her nurse Annie just stuck her head in with TERRIFIC NEWS. She just got Elizabeth's blood test results from this afternoon and her white blood cells have jumped from .5 to 1.7 THAT IS AMAZING. Of course, I felt bad for the nurse who came in grinning from ear to ear to hear EJ respond with "then why do I still feel like crap?". The next thing she said was "then I can go home tomorrow!" Remember that the magic number is 2.0 for WBC....but also no Anti-biotics for an infections, able to eat solids,etc.....but maybe by the end of this week?????

Think possitively....Of course, leave it to Elizabeth to be discharged on Friday March 23rd and steal the thunder of Katrina's birthday.........OR, leave it to Katrina to have a birthday and steal the thunder of Elizabeth coming home. They always were competitive. Maybe Elizabeth will be discharged on Thursday and they're won't be a conflict :)

That's my update for now. Leave your comments.

Lizzie,

We missed you this weekend and I'm sorry your fever interfered with our visit! I'm not even mad that you didn't even want to see YBS! But I do look forward to the day very soon when you come home.

On a lighter note, you know the boys and I went skiing yesterday, right? Well, while we were there, we met an elderly gentleman who was bragging about all of the mountains that he and his wife visit on a yearly basis. Well, of course, Zach put in his two cents about Killington being the best mountain around and this man insisted that Okemo was his favorite. To which, Zach muttered under his breath "Okemo...I don't think this family will ever want to ski at a place called "Okemo"...especially Aunt Liz!" Get it? "Oh-Chemo?" Anwyay, that's middle school humor for you.

We love you lots!!

Sorry folks...but Elizabeth's fever spiked again last night. This time it was 103. They got it down, but she's feeling wiped. I'll update on the comment section later on.

Thanks for the update. Do they know what is causing the fever? I'm happy to hear that your counts are going up. You are right on track! Soon you will be home! Did you get my message that the Women's Group raised $450 for the family whose house burned down? Thanks to all who donated! There is a caring community out here praying and waiting for you to get better and come home.
Love,
Amy

By the way, didn't we ski at Okemo together before any of this garbage? And we both got major headaches that weekend and you got sick there? Hummmm.....

Elizabeth, I just wanted you to know that you are ALWAYS in my thoughts and prayers and I'm happy for the good news :) If books are too much to concentrate on maybe a movie would be good? I just watched Casino Royale and it made me laugh (although I'm not sure that was the filmmakers' intention). I mean, HE RAN THROUGH A WALL. How ridiculously awesome is that? =D I hope you get home soon and get better real fast. <3

Good morning Elizabeth

Seems you're taking the Spring fever thing a bit too literally! We're also a society where bigger's better...who knew 2 is a much bigger number than 103. Let's go for 2... get the fever numbers down and BC numbers up and channel our thoughts on homecoming!
Love ya..have a blessed day.

As promised, a 24 hour update. Most of the time yesterday (Monday) Elizabeth was fever free, except for one spike at about 2:00PM when she was at 101.4. She did however have a fever of 102.0 this morning at 6:00AM (Tuesday). One of the antiobiotics seems to have caused a slight rash and unfortunately she did have a few episodes of serious nausea (One in the late afternon and two overnight). It's strange cause she hasn't eaten any solids since last Friday. The bloodwork cultures do not show any infection after jelling for 48 hours. We'll see what happens after 4 or 5 days, but each time her fever spikes, they draw bloods for cultures. Thank heaven they have cleared the blockage from her port so that they can again get blood from it. It had been finicky for days and they were jabbing her with needles. Last night may be the last time for the neuprigin (growth hormone) needle which is so terribly painful (It burns), because her counts are continuing to rise. Her WBC that should fight infection went from the 1.7 of Sunday to 2.8 yesterday. Still considered low for you and I, but we hope will start fighting this unknown infection soon.
When I spoke to her this morning, she seemed real tired but for the first time asked for some food. I'm bringing down some cooked farins (which she loves) and some of sister Carols chicken soup...I said it couldn't hurt.
So, that's today's update.
I'll be back tomorrow morning to let you know the latest.

Every point counts.
